Airport’s Name at Kuala Namu Should Refer Local Figures

MEDAN, NORTH SUMATERA – Amid the construction project to establish a new International airport at Kuala Namu, Deli Serdang regency, some proposals have been conveyed to give proper name.
Anthropologist, from Medan State university or popularly called Unimed, Usman Pelly regarded the new entrance gate through flight transportation into North Sumateraprovince should be referred to local but most influencing figures.
“The figure is one who struggle in the historical movement both morally and physically involved within. Anyway, the optional name must not be potentially drawing public feud,” Usman said in a national seminar to discuss the airport’s name, staged here on Monday (Dec.27).
In his opinion, Abdul Haris Nasution, Adam Malik, Amir Hamzah, Ahmad Thahir, Djamin Ginting, Guru Patimpus, Kolonel Bedjo, Raja Inal Siregar, Tengku Rizal Nurdin, Tuanku Rao, Sisingamangaraja and Wiliam Iskandar, are proper to be suggested.
“We should also note the name not only represent plurality in our region, but also easily to utter,” he added.
 Press Community proposed Monday (Dec.27) two optional names for the new aiport being constructed at , Deli Serdang regency.
In a  held at Grand Angkasa Hotel, in Medan, Kualanamu International Airport and  Sumatera Utara regarded properly to name the Polonia airport successor. The seminar was attended by academician and the lawmakers.
The seminar committee chairman Mayjen Simanungkalit added that new option is still openly accepted.
“So far, the seminar result will be proposed to the government through Legislative Council and the provincial administration office,” Simanungkalit explained.
Government vows to accomplish the new International airport in 2012.
