Rahudman to be Probed Soon, Prosecutor Said

MEDAN, NORTH SUMATERA - North Sumatera High Prosecutor's Office has demanded President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's permit to interrogate Rahudman Harahap, linked with a regional budget graft case, through a letter sent from Attorney General's Office.

The letter already accepted by State Secretary which means that the ministry will only give the letter to President, so it is signed immediately.

The Prosecutor's Office conveyed certainty the President willing approve the demand. "This is intended to perform a clear legal process," Prosecutor's Assistant for Special Crime, Erbindo Saragih told Waspada Online here on Thursday (Dec.23).

"Despite the process take a long time, Prosecutor's Office optimistic that President will directly signed the interrogation letter," Erbindo said.
 
He added, his side has authority to inspect the Medan city mayor on condition the letter not yet approved more than 60 days since it was proposed from Attorney General's Office. "But, we should have approval from the AGO first," said he.
 
The Attorney General's Office reported the progress of interrogation demand letter submitted to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, linked with South Tapanuli corruption case. The letter that ask authority to question suspect Rahudman Harahap might be accepted in days, AGO Spokesman Babul Khoir said.
 
Khoir affirmed that State Secretary office already received the letter. "Now, the Cabinet Secretary office is processing the letter," he told Waspada Online on Tuesday (Dec.7) through cellular phone.
 
Babul explained, the letter intended to demand President's permit for interrogating South Tapanuli graft suspect Rahudman Harahap, failed to meet several requirements.
 
Prosecutor's Office sent a letter, to question South Tapanuli graft suspect Rahudman Harahap, to the President since Oct.25.
 
The North Sumatra supervisory board stating Rahudman failed to take responsibility for more than Rp13.8 billion lost from the South Tapanuli administration's 2005 budget when he was serving as secretary of the administration.
 
Rahudman was also accused of misappropriating over Rp4.9 billion from the same budget, which was disbursed as loans to 100 officials in South Tapanuli.
 
Later, Prosecutor's Office has declared Rahudman a suspect in conjunction with South Tapanuli budget graft on 2005, for his capacity as the former regency's secretary.
