RI, China Navies to Step up Cooperation in Martime Security

Jakarta - The Indonesian and Chinese navies have agreed to step up their cooperative relations in the field of maritime security, an Indonesian Navy spokesman said.

The agreement was reached during a courtesy call by the commander of a Chinese naval task force, Commodore Wei Xueji, on the commander of the Indonesian Military Marine Traffic Command, Commodore Didit Herdiawan, here Tuesday, according to the command`s information officer, Lt Col Agus Cahyono.

"Cooperation between the Indonesian and Chinese navies have so far been running well but it will be enhanced and expanded further," Agus said.

Commodore Wei visited Didit accompanied by the commanders of three Chinese naval ships berthed at Jakarta`s Tanjung Priok seaport.

"The three Chinese naval ships docked at Tanjung Priok Seaport after completing patrolling duties in the Indian Ocean," Agus said.

Indonesia and China have a Strategic Partnership Agreement as the legal basis for cooperation in the defense and security fields.
