As many as 28 officers in various penitentiaries are sacked due to their involvement in the use and distribution of drugs. Most of the perpetrators of the unscrupulous business worked in North Sumatra prisons.
"The 28 officers were discharged in 2010," said a spokesperson of Justice and Human Rights Ministry, Bambang Sumardiono, today, Feb 22.
"Many inmates control drugs dealing from behind the bars under the assistance of the officers," he said.
Bambang said Directorate General of Correctional Facilities installs jammers to derange cell phone signals. "The devices have been installed in Nusakambangan, Medaeng of East Java, Grobokan in Denpasar, and some Jakarta prisons," he said.
