“The Assembly has yet to make an agreement over article 256 of Aceh’s regional regulations, or the Qanun, which was removed by the Constitutional Court,” he said, adding that the delay could last for as long as six months.
The Independent Election Committee (KIP) had formerly stated that the Qanun’s non-issuance could possibly be replaced with its previous version.
“The Commission is allowed to impose the old version. But, there are many articles from the bill that are incompatible with the current situation of Aceh’s regional elections,” Commissioner Zainal Abidin said.
He promised to discuss matters with the General Election Commission (KPU) as soon as possible.
