Two miners of PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, a joint venture of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk and Newcrest Mining Limited, are trapped in underground mine Kencana in Gosowong, Halmahera, North Maluku.
On Sunday, Dec 19, the path heading toward the main mining hole was buried under the collapsed ground. Stones and mud blocked the access for two operators who are in charge of digging machines and underground loaders.
"Both operators are safe and we can still maintain contact with them," said President Director of PT Nusa Halmahera, Iwan Irawan, today, Dec 23.
Food and water supplies are channeled through a number of holes drilled by the rescue team. "We're keep monitoring them," he said.
