The Coalition of Anti Corruption People wanted the national anti-graft agency Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to take over the judicial case which involves former mid-ranking tax official Gayus Halomoan Tambunan.
NGOs protesting at the KPK office today included the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), the Transparency International Indonesia (TII), the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) and the Legal Aid Center of Jakarta.
“We’re worried that the police don’t seriously investigate the Gayus case because no significant progress has been made,” said TII Secretary General Teten Masduki.
The coalition demanded KPK to look into the alleged parties, “including the police.”
Teten said that KPK, under the new leader, must shortly set out a revitalization. There is likely demotivation in KPK in the aftermath of criminalization of two KPK leaders Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah.
“This is the challenge that Busyro must face to recover KPK,” he said.
