The Indonesian government refused to comment on the WikiLeaks breached cables stating that the US is ready to overturn ban on training Kopassus army special forces.
Presidential spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said the United States has resumed ties with Kopassus without being put into pressures.
"We're keeping our eyes on the progress in the media. The sort of [WikiLeaks] information is not verifiable. We can't comment on the said breached cables," Faizasyah told VIVAnewstoday, Dec 17.
Faizasyah was asked to bring out his thoughts on the headlines displayed by Australian mass media The Age and Sydney Morning Herald on the cables.
According to the breached cables, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono(SBY) and other senior Indonesian officials have made it clear to us that SBY views the issue of Army Special Forces (KOPASSUS) training as a litmus test of the bilateral relationship. The cable also says it is believed the visit of President Obama will not be successful unless this issue is resolved in advance of the visit.
Faizasyah refused to neither confirm nor deny the information. He said the cooperation between the US and Indonesia has been approved by both governments.
