JAKARTA - Two workers trapped for 10 days in an underground gold mine in eastern Indonesia have been rescued.
Newcrest Mining Ltd. said Wednesday that the two Indonesian men were working on an excavator and an underground loader when the shaft was hit by a rockslide on Dec. 19.  The Melbourne, Australian-based company said they were unharmed and have been reunited with their families.
The Gosowong gold mine, located on the island of Halmahera, is 82 percent owned by Newcrest. The remaining stake is owned by Indonesia’s PT Aneka Tambang.
