Five New Astons Sold

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 | 11:15 AM WIB | 0 Views Last Updated 2011-04-20T16:15:29Z
China's relatively new millionaires have demonstrated their continuing lust for expensive luxury cars after all five of Aston Martin's limited edition One-77 for the world's biggest car market were snapped up within days despite a price tag between $6m and $7m.

Media reports in China claim the exclusive British luxury sports cars, of which only 77 will be built, were ordered before the car was shown at this week's Shanghai motor show.

The One-77 is the costliest car at the Show, making Daimler's $2m Maybach 62 S "Shanghai 2011" Special Edition limo appear a relative bargain.

There are conflicting reports in China about the car's cost. The Shanghai Daily says the One-77 is priced at 38.8m Chinese Yuan ($5.7m) while the China Daily has published a price-tag of 47m Yuan ($7m).

"Chinese consumers love to show off their wealth by having unique luxury products or getting them one step ahead of the others, a Beijing-based automotive analyst told the China Daily.

China is close to reaching one million millionaires - an increase of nearly 10 per cent on 2010. Luxury cars are the fastest-growing segment in China, where 18.06 million vehicles were sold in 2010.

The One-77 is constructed from carbon fibre and aluminium and is powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine.
