MEDAN, NORTH SUMATRA - Spatial planning analyst Abdul Rahim Siregar pushes government to speed up new airport project at Kuala Namu, Deli Serdang district. The insistence is connected with decreasing capacity of Polonia airport in Medan.
"Referring to province's spatial planning, the new airport should have been operated in 2002," Rahim said Wednesday.
In his opinion, Polonia now lack of service standard and security affairs.
"The old airport fails to perform international flight service. This condition is concerned to degrade passenger's comfortability," he said.
Previously, regional Senator Parlindungan Purba urged Tuesday management board of Polonia airport install CCTV so the security could be elevated.
"It is reasonable push since the airport's lackaside to anticipate illegal acces," said Parlindungan, in concerning with latest incident that a stranger may easily enter a plane without license nor ticket.
"What a shame if this incident vulnerably occurred again," he complained.
The illegal passenger, M Yusril Bukit, entered the airplane without the proper documents. He gained access to the airport through a drainage tunnel, during a Monday (Feb.7) flight.
